As a scholar, I am dedicated to understanding how written, visual, and performance genres mediate our reality. Through my research on the role of narrative in literary nonfiction and my teaching on topics ranging from gender in literature to race in standup comedy, I work to elucidate the powerful—and empowering—potential of understanding genre. In my classroom, I strive to equip students with the resources to appreciate the various media through which others communicate, and to craft their arguments in the forms most appropriate to their message.
I am an Assistant Professor of Communication and Journalism at the University of Maine. Feel free to email me at firstname.lastname@example.org if you have any questions about my research or teaching.
